Five crosses between introduced varieties with resistance to stripe and a susceptible Japanese paddy rice variety were investigated for estimating the mode of inheritance of resistance. Resistance in Zenith is controlled by two pairs of complementary dominant genes. Resistance in Surjumkhi, Charnck, Russia No.35 and Ketan-Nangka are conditioned by an incompletely dominant gene, St3. It may be worthwhile to point out that the gene governing resistance varies with the origin of rice varieties.
