The crystal structure of the interrnetallie compound Cr4Si4Alls has been determined. The main framework of the structure is a network of linked tetrahedra of Cr, Si and AI atoms, the latter being in 4-coordination.The form of the first prominent Brfllouin zone of the structure suggests that Cr has a negative 'effective valency' in this compound, and electron counts indicate a small excess of electrons in the Cr atoms.Unusually short interatomic distances between Cr and AI, similar to those previously reported for M_n and AI in Mn3SiAIg, occur in the structure.
