Results are reported from aerial surveys in 1975 and 1977 of red kangaroos and grey kangaroos, Macrops rufus and M. fuliginosus, in almost half a million square kilometres in western New South Wales. There was good rainfall during these years, and populations of both species increased on average by approximately 13% per annum. These increases were in the face of harvesting at an annual rate of approximately 3.8% for grey kangaroos and increasing from 2.3% to 3.2% for red kangaroos.
