There are various types of industrial applications in petroleum industries in which 15% hydrochloric acid solution is used, which results in corrosion problem. The objective of this study is to experimentally evaluate the corrosion inhibition properties of Triticum aestivum plant extract in a 15% hydrochloric acidic (HCl) media for stainless steel (SS-410). Potentiodynamic study shown that maximum 92.69% corrosion inhibition efficiency at 4 g/L of T. aestivum in 15% HCl solution was obtained. Scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray photon spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction study confirmed the adsorption of T. aestivum extract on the steel surface. The peaks at 286 eV and 530 eV demonstrate the presence of carbon and oxygen in the surface of treated SS-410. SS-410 samples immersed in HCl containing 4 g/L TAE possessed comparatively lower 193.75 nm surface roughness as a result of corrosion inhibitory activity of phytochemicals present in the TAE. TAE followed Langmuir adsorption isotherm that confirmed monolayer formation on the surface of SS-410. Theoretical study confirmed that (+)-Lariciresinol was the main phytochemical responsible for anti-corrosive effect. Hence, TAE has shown anti-corrosive behaviour in the acidic 15% HCl solution on SS-410 surface.
