Exact solutions are presented for the propagation of horizontally polarized shear waves in multilayered anisotropic media. The wave is allowed to propagate along an arbitrary angle θ from the normal to layer interfaces, but restricted to propagate along an axis of symmetry for each layer. The solutions are obtained in two steps. In the first, formal solutions are derived for each layer which relate the field variables at its upper and lower layer surfaces. In the second, the response of the total plate proceeds by satisfying appropriate interfacial conditions across the layers. The results are general and include those pertaining to free waves on a finite-thickness multilayered plate, as well as on periodic media. Several numerical illustrations in the forms of dispersion characteristics are given.
