At present, two methods are used for manufacturing the glass fibers, -the one is to pull the molten glass out of numerous small holes, and the other is to blown the molten glass by a high speed air stream. But the former has some defects of not to be suitable for mass production and the latter results in bad quality of fibers. There is another method of using rotating bodies which is not yet successful in the industry due to various difficulties and troubles. Since 1940, we have attempted to study the mechanism of filamentation of viscous liquid systematically, and found that the method of using rotating bodies was possible and promising under some optimum conditions. In this report, we have treated the case of rotating discs observing the modes of seneration of filaments photographically. We have shown at first that the modes of disintegration of viscous liquid are divided into three. types, -dropwise, filamentwise and filmwise as we have already published. And secondly that there exists an optimum condition of making fibers, as the pitch between fibers becomes minimum and so-called filament flow becomes very stable at certain values of the diameter of the rotating disc D, the flow rate q, the viscosity of liquid μ and the rotational speed n.
