This paper investigates the automatic generation control of a deregulated power system with diverse source of power generation. Here, the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system is used as a controller for 3-area control structure of hydro-thermal-gas power generation with generation rate constraint. The proposed system was tested on various contracted scenarios for load disturbances and system uncertainties. The simulation has been performed for poolco, bilateral, and for contract violation transaction cases under step input disturbance. To evaluate the performance of proposed controller further, the system was also subjected to simultaneous disturbance in all the control areas of various responses such as ramp, square, triangular, increasing staircase, and decaying staircase disturbances one at a time. The results show that the proposed controller bears out its robust performance for assorted load disturbances and system nonlinearity.
