This article is aimed at practitioners who may need to manage patients with simple lymphoedema independently. It describes the differences and development of both lower limb chronic oedema and lymphoedema; how to recognise which condition the patient has, and how to manage them appropriately. These are very common, but chronic, conditions that need long-term management, and a successful outcome to treatment will be dependent on the patient performing self-care strategies. This article discusses some of these management strategies and options available to ensure optimum patient adherence to treatment.
