EDITORIAL SYNOPSIS This paper concerns the concentration and output of ammonia in the stomach, duodenum, and jejunal juices in health and in various diseases. The effects of gastric, pancreatic, and biliary secretions are measured and it is suggested that ammonia undergoes non-ionic diffusion across the gut membrane relevant to the different pH levels. The place of upper gastrointestinal dialysis with acid is considered for the management of hyperammonaemia.
