Photocatalytic technology is regarded as a highly promising technology for energy conversion and environmental remediation due to its green, clean, and low-cost features. The development of photocatalysts with high activity and excellent cycling stability is the key to promoting the practical application of photocatalytic technology. Among numerous photocatalytic materials, ZnIn 2 S 4 has received considerable attention owing to its suitable band structure and outstanding photochemical properties. It has been widely applied in various fields including water splitting for H 2 production, CO 2 reduction, green synthesis of H 2 O 2 , and degradation of organic pollutants. This work systematically summarizes the latest research progress of ZnIn 2 S 4 -based photocatalysts in the fields of energy conversion and environmental remediation, and comprehensively elaborates on the modification strategies including defect engineering, heterostructure construction, microstructural design, and cocatalyst modification. Furthermore, based on the analysis of the reaction mechanism for ZnIn 2 S 4 -based photocatalysts, we deeply reveal the intrinsic relationship between the inherent characteristics and catalytic performance. Finally, we summarize the existing challenges in this field and prospect the future development directions, aiming to provide important references for the design of high-efficiency photocatalysts and the sustainable development of society.
