Villa et al. (1986:431) proposed that human skeletal material, recovered from the Neolithic levels of Fontbregoua Cave in southeastern France, exhibited particular attributes which indicated the state of the remains was a product of cannibalism: The analysis of these bones strongly suggests that humans were butchered, processed, and probably eaten in a manner that closely parallels the treatment of wild and domestic animals at Fontbregoua.
