The present study investigates the effects of sequential cable loss due to multi-component seismic excitations in cable-stayed bridges using the Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA). After validating the numerical model, a total of 524 nonlinear dynamic analyses were performed to assess the impact of losing one to four cables on the seismic response of the bridge. Specifically, the loss of up to two cables does not significantly affect the bridge’s seismic performance. Ultimately, the loss of four cables compromises the structural integrity of the bridge, resulting in progressive collapse through a zipper-type failure mechanism.
