Summary A photographic method for assessing colour change was compared with an instrumental colorimetric procedure. Two denture base resins were stained in various solutions. Optical density changes of colour transparencies were measured with a transmission densitometer. Good agreement with the colorimetric technique was obtained after 15 days of staining over a range of F‐stops and bandpass filters.
