Thermocouples were placed into the uterine serosa and saphenous artery of four dairy heifers. Injection of Estradiol-17β (3 mg) caused a 0.25 C decrease (P<.01) in the difference between uterine and aortic temperatures (△Tuterus-aorta) by 2.5 hr. post injection. In contrast there was no significant change in the △Tuterus-aorta after injection of saline. The Estradiol-17β induced decrease in △Tuterus-aorta could have resulted from an increase in the rate of uterine blood flow.
