During August and September 1905 seven German Benedictine missionaries, four men and three women, were murdered by Africans in former German East Africa, now the Republic of Tanzania. Another Benedictine Sister died of exhaustion after fleeing to safety. In addition four German Benedictine mission stations and two stations belonging to the Berlin Missionary Society were burned and destroyed.
