One Catalyst, Two Reactivities: CO makes the Switch and Enables Adaptivity. Supported palladium nanoparticles adapt to their environment to hydrogenate alkynes to alkanes under H2, and to Z-alkenes upon incorporation of CO. The CO-triggered selectivity switch is fully reversible, rapid, and robust, and enables adaptive hydrogenation of 37 structurally diverse alkynes to valuable bioactive and pharmaceutical intermediates.
