The crystal and molecular structure of lithocholic acid (C24H4003) has been determined from threedimensional X-ray diffractometer data. The structure was solved by direct methods. The crystals are orthorhombic, P212~2~, with a= 6807 (2), b = 12.178 (3), c= 26779 (4)/~ and Z= 4. The atomic parameters were refined by full-matrix least-squares to an R value of 0049. The structure and hydrogen bonding are compared to other similar type steroids. All the oxygen atoms are involved in hydrogen bonding.
