Transition-metal based metal organic frameworks (MOFs) by reason of controllable structures, extensive surface areas, rich electronic properties and efficient redox active sites are being used in advanced electrochemical energy storage devices. This article gives a comprehensive review on the synthesis of MOFs from transition metal comprising Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn with an emphasis on their use in batteries and supercapacitors. It is a good addition to the library of the ongoing search for electrode materials to improve electrochemical performance of energy storage devices.
