In the construction industry, a number of employees leave their jobs even with higher work-engagement. This study examines how the development process of emergent teams influences talent retention, based on a case study in a general contractor. The authors found that through qualitative interviews with architectural designers focusing on TC, emergent teams share a deep common understanding of the collaborative process. It was also shown that TC, based on mutual respect and an understanding of members’ expertise and characteristics, enhances team emergence by promoting flexible role behaviors, which improves members’ intentions to stay.
