Active control of seismic-isolated structures to reduce responses to strong earthquake ground motions, including pulse-type and long-period ground motions, is the focus of this study. A single-degree-of-freedom base-isolated model is examined using multiple active control methods. Transfer function and control-parameter sensitivities are evaluated from the response-control effects on relative displacement and absolute acceleration. The results are discussed in terms of the trends in response characteristics of active control on seismic-isolated structures from the feedback control system, relative to the absolute coordinate system, and the control effects based on the hysteresis and vibration energy consumption characteristics of the investigated control methods.
