Progress in Digital Communication Technology

This survey paper provides a concise and systematic overview of wireless communication network technologies related to 5G systems, followed by a review of industry trends and related research on local 5G. As a practical case study, it also presents radio wave propagation measurement results obtained using a local 5G system installed in the underground area of the university campus where the authors are affiliated. The aim of this paper is to serve as a stepping stone for researchers and engineers in vertical industries outside the traditional communications domain, as well as for students who have just begun their studies in this field, to gain a comprehensive understanding of 5G and local 5G technologies.
