NCARE app boosts post-CABG cognition scores from 30% to 85% alongside conation and adherence.
Why the study?
Post-surgical cardiac rehabilitation is crucial for improving outcomes after CABG but remains underutilized, necessitating effective interventions to enhance patient cognition, motivation, and adherence.
Does the Nurse-Led Cardiac Rehabilitation App (NCARE) improve cognition, conation, and adherence to practice regarding cardiac rehabilitation in post-CABG patients?
Does the Nurse-Led Cardiac Rehabilitation App (NCARE) improve cognition, conation, and adherence to practice regarding cardiac rehabilitation in post-CABG patients?
A nurse-led cardiac rehabilitation app significantly improved cognition, motivation, and adherence to rehabilitation practices in post-CABG patients.
May support NCARE for post-CABG adherence; hypothesis-generating and requires randomized confirmation before practice change.
Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of global mortality. Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is a critical intervention for managing coronary artery disease. Post-surgical cardiac rehabilitation is crucial for improving patient outcomes, yet it remains underutilized. Objective: This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Nurse-Led Cardiac Rehabilitation App (NCARE) in enhancing cognition, conation, and adherence to practice among post-CABG patients. Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed in a tertiary care hospital in Puducherry, India. Thirty post-CABG patients were selected using purposive sampling. Data on cognition, conation, and adherence were collected using a self-structured questionnaire before and after the participants used the NCARE app. The intervention included education on medications, dietary modifications, exercises, and lifestyle changes. Results: Significant improvements were observed in cognition, conation, and adherence post-intervention. Pre-test cognition scores indicated poor cognition (mean = 30%), which improved to good cognition (mean = 85%) post-test (p < 0.001). Positive conation increased from 6.7% to 96.7%, and adherence to recommended practices rose from 10% to 93.3%. Conclusion: The NCARE app significantly improved patient outcomes by enhancing cognition, motivation, and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation practices. This cost-effective, scalable intervention could bridge gaps in post-CABG care and reduce rehospitalization rates.

Angeline et al. (2025) studied Post-Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery (n=30). Nurse-Led Cardiac Rehabilitation App (NCARE) vs. Pre-intervention baseline was evaluated on Cognition score (p=<0.001). The NCARE app significantly improved mean cognition scores from 30% to 85% (p<0.001), positive conation from 6.7% to 96.7%, and adherence from 10% to 93.3% in post-CABG patients.
