SPWVD-based algorithm effectively eliminates maternal ECG artifacts from abdominal recordings.
Why the study?
Recognition and eradication of maternal ECG artefact from multichannel abdominal ECG recordings is necessary for accurate fetal ECG analysis.
An algorithm using SPWVD time-frequency analysis can identify and remove maternal ECG artifacts from abdominal ECG recordings to isolate fetal ECG signals.
This paper presents an algorithm that recognizes and eradicates the supreme artefact (Maternal Electrocardiogram MECG) from the multichannel abdominal Electrocardiogram realization. Abdominal Electrocardiogram (AECG) components observed from multi leads are balanced by accomplishing signal averaging. Then smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution (SPWVD) time-frequency analysis has been performed for energy calculation, from which higher energy components are recognised, they are intrinsic in the identification of maternal R-peaks, fiducial points and maternal P,T waves. This work is validated using multichannel abdominal Electrocardiogram acquired from the physionet Non-Invasive Fetal ECG databank.

M et al. (2016) studied Maternal Electrocardiogram artifact. Algorithm using smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution (SPWVD) time-frequency analysis was evaluated on Recognition and eradication of maternal ECG artifact. An algorithm using smoothed pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution time-frequency analysis successfully recognized and eradicated maternal ECG artifacts from multichannel abdominal electrocardiograms.
