Background: Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) has been one of the most commonly observed overuse injuries in Physically active individuals such as gym-goers and runners. Walking/running on incline treadmill was hypothesized to impose higher stress on the lower extremity and iliotibial band. Ellyptical machine trainer was thought to be the low-impact alternate exercise method; however, the ITBS difference between the two types of training has been less studied. Aims & objectives: The purpose of the study was to evaluate and compare the prevalence of ITBS in incline treadmill users with in elliptical trainer users at gymnasium settings. Methodology: A comparative cross sectional study design was implemented using 137 physically active gym-goers, who were regular exercisers using treadmill or elliptical trainer was taken. A convenience sampling was done for the selection of subjects from different gymnasiums of Faisalabad. Data was collected through a well structured questionnaire including demographical information, exercise type and frequency, history of pain, and clinical assessment for ITBS (Noble Compression Test and Ober’s Test). Prevalence was assessed in both groups and compared. Results: The incidence of ITBS was found to be higher in incline treadmill users compared with elliptical trainer users. Conclusion: The outcome of this study may help physiotherapists and fitness trainers understand risk of ITBS with different cardio machines and for safer exercise recommendations for gym members
