People who produce craft work in their home provide a case for the study of the integration of productive and reproductive occupations in the home. This study of crafters in the Metropolitan Detroit area indicates that the boundaries between domains of work and home are fluid, changing according to the time of the year, the needs of family members, and economic pressures. The autonomy to move between domains without having to ask “permission” is a highly valued attribute of this type of work.
