We tested whether the generally assumed linear population receptive field (pRF) size-eccentricity relationship in the central visual field extends to the far periphery in the human visual cortex. Different from the central visual field observations, our wide-view pRF measurements revealed a nonlinear pRF size-eccentricity relationship in the early visual areas. This nonlinear relationship suggests different organizational patterns between the central and the far-peripheral visual fields.
