The temporal dimension of social life has been ignored by many sociologists. The field of the sociology of leisure has included the concept in many of its works. Using leisure research as illustrations, the concept of time is explored looking at time as a duration, time and synchronization, and temporal perspective as a reference point. The importance of time as a concept in future research is explained.
