The evolution of a steep wavefront propagating perpendicular to an externally applied homogeneous magnetic field is considered. The propagation is accompanied by the excitation of low-frequency waves. When the nonlinear interaction is taken into account we observe the evolution of a modulational instability trailing the wavefront.
