The genus Heterogyna Nagy, 1969, is based on a single male specimen unavailable for study since description. Its affinities have remained enigmatic. Reasons are given for considering males of four additional new species to be congeneric with Heterogyna. The species are described, figured and a key is presented. On the basis of these species, the genus is placed as a previously unrecognized subfamily of Sphecidae, Heterogyninae Nagy, 1969. Brachypterous females are associated with these males. An account is given of a novel modification of the sting apparatus, which may be used in conjunction with the last tergum as a grasping organ.
