Resistance to acceptance and rejection are defined for a test of hypotheses in a one-sample setting. These numbers are calculated for several standard tests and their meaning is discussed. Resistances are proposed as adjuncts to significance levels of tests, especially in large samples. This usage is emphasized in the case of the χ2 goodness-of-fit test and then illustrated on a large data set concerned with the initial digit phenomenon.
