A method of etching dislocations in single crystals of cadmium is described. It has been used to examine the microstructure of kinks formed during the extension of cadmium crystals. A kink consists of two fans of rather irregular low angle boundaries; in the central part, there is frequently a narrow, sharply misoriented region. In the later stages of development, kinks become very complex. The formation, growth, and stability of kinks are discussed.
