Emergency TMVr stabilizes severe MR from an anterior leaflet tear as a bridge to surgery.
Why the study?
Severe mitral regurgitation from anterior leaflet tear is a rare but serious complication of percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty, and emergency transcatheter repair as a stabilizing strategy has not been well described.
Case Report (n=1)
No
May stabilize hemodynamics in acute leaflet tear after balloon valvuloplasty; leaves open prospective validation of this off-label bridge strategy.
We present the case of a 66-year-old woman who developed severe mitral regurgitation from rupture of the anterior mitral valve leaflet following percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty. Emergency transcatheter mitral valve repair was used to reduce the severity of mitral regurgitation and facilitate definitive surgical treatment. (Level of Difficulty: Advanced.)

Dowling et al. (2023) conducted a case report in Mitral leaflet tear following percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty (n=1). Emergency transcatheter mitral valve repair (MitraClip NT) was evaluated.
