Virtual reality/ augmented reality (VR/AR) can connect the virtual environment with the real world, greatly enriching human sensory experience. However, traditional hard sensors have poor comfort and compatibility, significantly affecting their actual experience. Fibers and fabrics, as essential items for the human body, can be conformally integrated into the human body without interfering with normal human activities. Among them, the triboelectric nanogenerator fibers (TENG fibers), as pressure sensors, have excellent flexibility, breathability, comfort, and self-powered characteristics. The TENG fibers, with their unique advantages, are gradually demonstrating their advantages in the VR/AR field. This paper reviews the latest advancements in TENG fibers, summarizing their structural characteristics, preparation methods, large-scale integration approaches, and methods for enhancing electrical output. It focuses on the application directions of TENG fibers in the VR/AR field, including virtual buttons, visualization of sports and health, gesture recognition and virtual character control, etc. It also pointed out the challenges faced by the TENG fiber research and the next research directions.
