Flowering tops of cultivated yarrow (Achillea millefolium L.) in Tehran were collected in different time and air-dried. Volatile oil of the flowers were obtained using steam distillation and the chemical composition were analysis by GC and GC-MS and identified in comparison with authentic compounds. The yield of essential oil were 0.7 to 1.3 v/w % and the major components were: Sabinene, 1,8-Cineol, cis-Chrysanthenol, Cuminaldehyed, cis-Chrysanthenyl acetate, (E)-Caryophyllene, GermacreneD, epi-α-Cadinol, α-Eudesmol, neo-Intermedeol. The results showed that all samples were free of Chamazulene and Jul was the best time for harvesting the cultivated yarrow in Tehran area.
