The creep observed after the Edgecumbe earthquake at two of the surveying networks installed across ground ruptures is compared with various forms of time dependence. The data available so far satisfy each of: the Jeffreys‐Lomnitz law with a negative exponent; a modified Michelson law; and a sum of an exponential and a logarithmic term. Rate parameters in these laws are different at different sites. A sum of two exponential terms is nearly as good and may be more useful for understanding the physical origin of the creep.
