A tumor on the face of an infant had the histologic findings of a perifollicular fibroma. It grew slowly for a three-year-period prior to excision. Histologic and electron micoscopic study of the excised specimen substantiated the diagnosis and supported concept of origin of this tumor from the follicle and its connective tissue sheath. The congenital occurrence of this tumor and the intimate relationship of the fibrous component to the follicular epithelium would favor the interpretation of this tumor as an adnexal tumor of follicular connective tissue sheath rather than a reactive response to injury.
