Procedures used in making forecasts of thermal conditions in proposed reservoirs and in streams to be regulated by them are presented. Reference is made to the energy-budget equation that provided the theoretical basis for the temperature forecasts. Methods of collecting and processing the required data are described including both field and office techniques. Hydrology and physical characteristics of the reservoirs are considered and the regulations for which they were studied described. Steps involved in the application of the energy-budget equation to reservoirs and streams are described including numerical examples of computations. An empirical method for the distribution of energy storage in a reservoir is presented.
