The transition towards a sustainable and circular bioeconomy requires evidence on both biomass-related conditions and the competencies needed to utilize these biological resources sustainably. This paper presents an integrated methodological framework for assessing national bioeconomy readiness, developed within the BOOST4BIOEAST project for countries in the BIOEAST macro-region. The framework combines indicators on sustainable biomass potential, and social, technological and economic competencies. It distinguishes between the current status quo and desired levels for 2030 and allows country-specific prioritisation of assessment goals. Slovenia is used as an illustrative case to demonstrate how the framework can support monitoring and evidence-based decision-making. Integrated readiness assessments can help structure complex information, identify capacity and data gaps, and support the preparation and future monitoring of national bioeconomy action plans.
