This contribution presents preliminary results of a comprehensive assessment of GHG emission profiles of innovative technologies analysed and investigated in the SEMPRE-BIO project. Three biomethane production pathways have been assessed using two complementary approaches: (i) an ISO 14040/44-based LCA focusing on core process performance, and (ii) an evaluation under the EU Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED) framework covering the entire value chain. The concepts combine anaerobic digestion with either cryogenic gas separation or catalytic methanation, and include the integration of renewable hydrogen via PEM electrolysis. They also combine pyrolysis with catalytic methanation. The results show high GHG mitigation potentials for all case studies. The comparison of both methodological approaches highlights substantial differences in results, particularly due to the treatment of renewable electricity and co-products under EU RED. These findings emphasize the importance of methodological consistency when evaluating innovative biomethane systems.
