The paper considers the linear stability of the reaction zone structure that has its origins in the large activation energy description of the counterflow diffusion flame. The steady reaction zone structure holds in the premixed flame regime and is known in the literature as Liñán’s structure problem. The stability of the reaction zone was first studied numerically by Peters [Combustion and Flame, 33 (1978), pp. 315–318]. The present paper gives an analytical derivation of the stability results obtained by Peters that is valid when the flame is nearly adiabatic.
