Pyridone derivatives 4a,b are prepared by reacting N-alkyl-2-cyanoacetamide 1a,bwith methyl propionylacetate.Compounds 4a,b are coupled with aromatic diazonium salts to produce the corresponding new azo disperse dyes 6a,b.The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized azo disperse dyes are evaluated.
