Purpose. Common bean is a weak nitrogen fixer among the grain legumes and is therefore expected to respond differently to mineral nitrogen than the crops it is usually grouped with. This study quantified how the rate and balance of mineral fertilisers govern the seasonal dynamics of plant-available soil nutrients, soil microbial abundance and the grain yield of white common bean grown as a repeat crop after winter wheat on irrigated stony-gravelly light sierozem soil.
