Experimental techniques and analysis to determine the complete set of linear piezoresistive and mechanical constants for foils used in piezoresistance measurements are presented. The plastic deformation contribution to resistance change is examined in detail. Material constants have been evaluated for manganin, ytterbium, and constantan. For the cold rolled manganin foils used in our work, plastic deformation makes negligible contribution to resistivity changes. The implications of the present results for shock wave studies are also presented.
