Detection of S 3PJ atoms in a flow system, using atomic resonance fluorescence at 181 nm, has been used to determine the rate constants k1 and k2/cm3 s–1 for reactions (1) and (2): S + O2[graphic omitted]SO + O, S + NO2[graphic omitted]SO + NO., Pseudo first-order conditions were used wih [O2]0/[S]0 and [NO2]0/[S]0 1. Measurements of k1 and k2 from 296 to 410 K gave the following Arrhenius expressions: k1=(1.7 ± 0.5)× 10–12 exp (+(153 ± 108)/T) cm3 s–1; (2σ) and k2=(4.9 ± 1.0)× 10–11 exp (+(84 ± 60)/T) cm3 s–1. (2σ)
