The stopping cross‐sections of well channelled H+, D+, He+, and Li+ ions have been determined in thin gold single crystals along the 〈110〉, 〈112〉, and 〈111〉 directions. The energy range studied was 2 to 54 keV. The energy straggling has been investigated as a function of energy loss for different mean energies, kinds of ions, and crystallographic directions. In some cases the energy loss spectrum showed a structure.
