We consider propagation of the slow tail portion of atmospheric waveforms. Using an idealized model of the earth-ionosphere cavity, the transient fields are calculated for a pulse-excited electric dipole source. It is shown that the frequency-independent phase shift at the antipode will lead to a pronounced change in the observed shape of the atmospheric waveform.
