The first stable compounds having partial structures, the title compounds 1(Aryl = mesityl or duryl), form adducts 2 with weak Lewis bases like THF and diethyl ether. An increased polarity of the π-bond component of the B-C double bond is revealed by the 11B chemical shifts; evidence of strong C-B hyperconjugation is provided by the anti-van't Hoff geometry of the heteroallene framework and by the long bonds between B and the double-bonded C in the four-membered ring.
