A new family of hybrid inorganic–organic proton conducting membranes is prepared by dispersing a unique ZrTa “core–shell” nanofiller in Nafion. The dynamic cross-links between Nafion and the nanofiller improve fuel cell performance, especially at low hydration degrees.
