Short mitro-aortic distance during TAVR carries high risk of direct curtain injury and LV pseudoaneurysm.
Why the study?
TAVR in patients with prior mitral prostheses carries risks of structural injury mechanisms that have not been fully characterized, including mechanical force transmission through closely apposed prostheses.

Noman et al. (2026) conducted an editorial in Prior surgical bioprosthetic mitral valve replacement undergoing TAVR (n=1). Transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was evaluated on Aorto-mitral curtain injury and left ventricular pseudoaneurysm. Transfemoral TAVR in a patient with a prior mitral bioprosthesis and a mitro-aortic distance of 2.3 mm resulted in direct mechanical injury and a contained left ventricular pseudoaneurysm.
