Why the study?
Vascular leiomyosarcomas of the inferior vena cava are rare malignant tumors with limited clinical characterization and management data.
Case Report (n=1)
No
Presents a rare clinical case of vascular leiomyosarcoma involving the inferior vena cava, highlighting the need for multidisciplinary management.
Leiomyosarcomas (LMS) are rare malignant tumors that arise from smooth muscle cells or their mesenchymal cell precursors. Soft tissue sarcomas account for 0.7% of all new cancer cases in theUnited States. Of these, LMS account for 10-20% of them, and the vascular subtype is the rarest of them, with the IVC as the most commonly involved vessel. We aim to present a rare case of a leiomyosarcoma in the IVC diagnosed and treated at Centro Medico Episcopal San Lucas.

Piñeiro et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Vascular Leiomyosarcoma of the Inferior Vena Cava (n=1). Surgical en-bloc resection with IVC reconstruction and adjuvant chemotherapy (doxorubicin and trabectedin) was evaluated on Clinical stability and tumor recurrence.
